With all the remote work being done, video interviews are now more popular than ever. Here are 3 tips to get you on the right path for your video interview.
...
- Verify Your Equipment and Connection – This means check your microphone, verify access to the application, check your audio and camera settings. You want your message to be the focus, not technology issues. Find a friend to get on a video chat with you to test out the quality of your connection
- Verify Your Setting – This means make sure you are in a quiet, distraction free place to do your interview. Take care that what is behind you within view does not cause a distraction. Again you want your answers to be the focus of the interviewer, not your cat and dogs playing in the background.
- Check Yourself in the Mirror – You need to make sure that from the waist up your appearance is job ready. Treat it like you are doing the interview in person and present yourself as if you were there….at least from the waist up. Again, have a friend get on a chat with you or do a screenshot of yourself and make sure you look interview presentable.
Remember the point of the interview is to communicate to the hiring company that you can contribute and be a productive member of their organization. Anything that takes away from that in the video interview is to your disadvantage.
Follow these simple tips and you will be off to a great start with your video interviews. So good luck and land that job.
